10 Inexpensive Ways to Treat Yourself
Selling a home can be loads of work, but don’t despair - you’re in the home stretch! Below are 10 inexpensive ways to relax, take a break and celebrate the impending sale of your home.
Be a Tourist
Most people wait until friends or family visit before they explore their town’s most notable places. Why not do this now? Most historic or culturally important places are free or have very small entrance fees.
Local Bookstore
These days, bookstores have more than just books. They often have in-house coffee shops where you can listen to music, grab a small bite to eat, play a game of cards or bury yourself in The NY Times Sunday Crossword Puzzle.
Get Active
Whether you’re athletic or not, getting active is a great way to relieve stress. Play a set of tennis, jog in the park, toss a Frisbee around, play catch with a football, shoot some baskets, go for a hike. No matter what you choose, you can spend quality time at minimal cost and get some exercise in, too.
Pack a Picnic
No matter where you go or what time of day you choose, packing a picnic is a great alternative to an expensive restaurant meal. Simply grab your dog, family, friend or your own good company, along with a loaf of bread, some great cheeses and a bottle of your favorite wine, and off you go!
Volunteer
You’ve been so wrapped up in selling your home that now might be a great time to focus on someone or something else besides yourself. Take a look on Craigslist.com or do a quick search on Google for volunteer opportunities in your area.
Museums and Art Galleries
Many museums and art galleries in major metro areas have at least one day or evening a month when entrance fees are waived or discounted. These are great opportunities to view major works of art when you’re on a shoe-string budget.
Movie
Probably the easiest way to treat your self is going to see a movie. Pick something you’ve been dying to see or go out on a limb and select a movie you normally wouldn’t be interested in. Either way spending a few hours engrossed in something other than real estate will do you good.
Sporting Event
Whether you’re a sports enthusiast or not, these types of events can be loads of fun. Grab your spouse, kids or a group of friends, and get fired up to cheer on your local team.
Fly a Kite
Raid your kid’s toy chest, head to the nearest park and let your inner child run wild.
Local Tours
Taking a tour of a local factory or historical place is a great way to spend an afternoon. Most are free or relatively inexpensive. Contact your local Chamber of Commerce for a list of available tours in your area.
