Mother Nature has been exceptionally kind to Vermont – from moose sightings to glorious sunsets over the Green mountains, there’s hardly a shortage of “the spectacular”. Other than its majestic scenery, Vermont is famous for its high quality dairy products and maple syrup.

Vermont has always had its own stance on a variety of issues.. In 1777, Vermont became an independet state, adopted the first liberal constitution and was the first to abolish slavery. Vermont coined its own money, ran its own government, and operated its own postal service. It was one of the first states to grant suffrage to women and the first to allow marriage to gay couples.

Although very small, Vermont is the second largest state in New England. The Green Mountains, one of the oldest mountain ranges in the world, dominate Vermont’s geography. Mountains are plenty in Vermont, with over 223, primarily forested, mountain areas. More than 75% of the state’s total area is comprised of forests. Lakes and rivers are plenty as well, with most rivers draining down the Green Mountains. Vermont’s distinct geography allows for very distinctive weather throughout the state.

With its humid continental climate, Vermont is surely one to boast about its four-season weather. Spring is the mud season, summer is mild, autumm is colorful and winter is plain cold. Perhaps the best time to experience the beauty of Vermont is during the autumn months, when Vermont’s hills overflow with fiery red, orange and gold foliage. Precipitation is well distributed throughout the year.
